Lift Chairs

Town & Country Health Services & Supplies, Inc., is a Medicare approved Durable Medical Equipment provider.  This means we have met certain criteria to be able to bill Medicare for those items covered by Medicare.  The following information provides you with the coverage and payment rules that we follow to determine the eligibility of the Medicare beneficiary for lift seat mechanisms.

E0627 is the Medicare code for Seat lift mechanism incorporated into a combination lift-chair mechanism.

For any item to be covered by Medicare, it must:

1.  be eligible for a defined Medicare benefit category

2.  be reasonable and necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or unjury or to improve the functioning of a malformed body member, and

3.  meet all other applicable Medicare statutory and regulatory requiarements. 

A seat lift mechanism is covered if ALL of the following cirteria are met:

1.  The patient must have a severe arthritis of the hip or knee or have a severe neuromuscular disease.

2.  The seat lift mechanism must be a part of the physician's course of treatment and be prescribed to effect improvement or arrest or retard deterioration in the patient's condition.

3.  The patient must be completely incapable of standing up from a regular armchair or any chair in their home.  (The fact that a patient has difficulty or is even incapable of getting up from a chair, particularly a low chair, is not sufficient justification for a seat lift mechanism.  Almost all patients who are capable of ambulating can get out of an ordinary chair if the seat height is appropriate and the chair has arms.)

4.  Once standing, the patient must have the ability to ambulate.  

The chairs may retail as low as $475.00 or range above $1000.00 depending on the features.  Medicare and a secondary combined may pay around $350.00, towards the seat lift mechanism, provided the annual deductable has been met for the calender year. 

Once the Physician's order and Certificate of Medical Necessity is received from the beneficiary's doctor, the determination is made that the reasonable and necessary criteria is met.  Once determined, the customer pays Town & Country in full for the chair prior to placing the order for the chair.  Once the chair is received by the Medicare beneficiary then Medicare is billed.  We bill this claim as non-assigned, meaning we are not able to accept what Medicare assigns ($350.00 approx.) as payment in full.  The payment from Medicare is sent directly to the beneficiary by Medicare within 60 days from the time it is billed and the secondary insurance pays soon after. 

If the reasonable and necessary criteria is not met, the customer may still pay in full for the chair and the order will be placed.  An ABN can be signed and Medicare will be billed at the beneficiary's request.  Medicare will make the decision re: coverage based on the documents presented.

All other items (except fabric) have four year parts and labor warranty.  Limited prorated lifetime warranty on all parts after year four to original purchaser only.  The best warranty on any lift chair.  (Applies to all models except 1200 Series, which has a two year warranty, and the 3555 which has a two year warranty on all components)

Reliance 5500 wall-a-way can be placed as close as 2 1/2" from the wall.  features full power lift/recline, with an excellent TV viewing position, where the foot rest can be raised without the back being reclined.  Options available:  wide and petite. luxury leather.
